Hyde United Women secure league title

Hyde United Women are celebrating an unprecedented league title win.

After an exciting title race with Manchester Laces, the GMWCFL Premier Division season concluded last month with both sides tied on points.

With the pair unable to be split, the league has announced the title will be shared between both clubs.

The amazing achievement tops off a superb couple of years for the club, who managed to go one better than their third-place finish in the 2023/24 campaign.

Following the triumph, Hyde United Women manager Lee Prince told the Reporter:

“This is a fantastic end to a momentous season for us that demonstrates how far we have come.

“We had a solid third place finish the previous year, but thanks to a fantastic group of players, coaches and physios, we have finally made the step up to become Premier League Champions.

“It was a long season with ups, downs, setbacks and celebrations with a 13-game winning streak from the start of the season that gave us the platform to go on and win the league alongside some defeats after Christmas which brought us back down to earth.

“Everyone involved played their part and with the squad we had we met everything that was thrown at us.

“We also had brilliant support from the club and supporters who have been coming down to our games to help get us over the line.

“To cap it all off, we were invited to celebrate our success alongside the men’s first team at the End of Season Awards night last Friday.

“We were presented with the League Trophy which culminated in the best season ever for this current team which has helped raise the profile of women’s football across Tameside, something as a club, team and individuals we are very proud of.”

Ahead of the new season, the club are looking to strengthen their squad.
