Hyde progress in League Cup

Integro League Cup third round: Widnes 1-2 Hyde United

Hyde United have progressed to the Integro League Cup quarter-final after beating Widnes 2-1 on Wednesday night.

Paddy Lane put the visitors ahead in the fifth minute with a well worked set piece from a corner. After playing a one-two, Lane composed himself outside the 18-yard box before firing home into the top left corner. Tom Pratt doubled the lead in the 53rd minute. After evading the offside trap, he capitalised on a long ball over the top and chested down before slotting beyond the Widnes 'keeper.

The Tigers were given a slight scare in the 90th minute when Widnes pulled one back through James Steele. Following a great move up the pitch, Steele found space to dart forward inside the box and cut inside before curling an effort into the top right corner. It mattered little however, as the hosts had no time to find an equaliser.
