Hyde Crash To Defeat As Unbeaten Start Comes To An End

Hyde’s unbeaten start to the season came to an abrupt end as they suffered an 89 run defeat to Alderley Edge on Saturday.

After an excellent start to the season the Werneth Low men would have been confident of victory but they came up against a George Bell inspired Edge.

After winning the toss Hyde decided to field first and they removed the dangerous Sam Perry (11) with just 21 on the board. 

Twenty-five runs later and the visitors were two down however this brought England under 19 player Bell to the crease and he showed his undoubted talent with an innings that belied his tender years.

It could all have been so different with Hyde convinced they had got Bell caught behind off spinner Charlie Barnard but their appeal was turned down and Bell went on to play a match winning innings.

Along with Ed Foster they moved the score on at a decent rate first passing hundred and then reaching 105 before Foster became third man to go for a well-made 43.

From that moment on Hyde were well in the game but Bell was proving a thorn in their side and whilst wickets fell at the other end he had a little problem dealing with the Hyde bowlers.

He finally reached his century off 105 balls and when he was last man out Edge had reached 181.

Charlie Barnard showed his huge potential as he claimed 6-42 from 17 outstanding overs.  

It was a total that should’ve been well within the reach of Hyde, especially given their early-season form, but when Luke Young was run out for just five, Hyde needed a big innings from fellow opener Tom Partridge. Unfortunately he went the very next ball and Hyde were two down with just seven runs on board. Barnard went cheaply and they were struggling on 21-3.

The home side did rally with Adam Worrall (34) and Rohit Acharya (25) moving the score on to 76 before Worrall became the next to go. The pair had given Hyde a semblance of hope and when Acharya went four runs later it led to a collapse and that saw them lose their last seven wickets for just 16 runs as they were all out for just 92.

This Saturday sees them host Chester Boughton Hall.
