Honours even at Ewen Fields

Hyde United began the new year with a hard-earned draw at home to Ilkeston Town, with a brace from the returning Edy Maieco helping the Tigers rescue a point.

The forward got his second spell at Ewen Fields off to a flying start, opening the scoring on 15 minutes with a perfectly weighted lob over Alfie Roberts.

But visitors Ilkeston quickly hit back, with L’Varn Brandy levelling the scoring just 2 minutes later, before Seth Okyere completed the turnaround on the stroke of half-time.

With the Tigers trailing at the break, Maieco restored the parity just eight minutes after the interval with his second of the afternoon, curling a sumptuous free kick into the top left corner, ensuring the points would be shared.
