Hillmen secure thrilling victory in seven goal thriller

Glossop North End hosted Padiham at The Asgard Engineering Stadium on Tuesday 13 February.

The game kicked off with an early blow for Glossop as Padiham took the lead after 3 minutes through a well-executed goal, capitalising on a defensive lapse to slot the ball past goalkeeper Ellis Allen.

However, Glossop quickly responded to the setback. A free kick delivered expertly by Lee Rick found its way to Jack Hopkins, who made no mistake in smashing the ball home to bring the scores level at 1-1. In response, Padiham continued to press forward, creating several opportunities, including a chance from a free kick that narrowly missed the target. The game reached a frenetic pace as both teams traded blows, with chances coming thick and fast at both ends. Abdul Djalo's mesmerising run into the box nearly resulted in another Glossop goal, only to be denied by a resilient Padiham defence. Glossop's defence also held firm, with Allen pulling off a remarkable double save to deny Padiham from taking the lead before half time.

Early in the second half, Padiham were awarded a contentious penalty, which was saved brilliantly by Ellis Allen. Following this boost, Glossop gained momentum, with Tom Lawless firing in a crucial goal from inside the box to give Glossop a 2-1 advantage. However, Padiham were awarded another penalty, following a foul by Ellis Allen in the box, and this time it was converted by Joel Brownhill, bringing the score to 2-2.
The Hillmen continued to push forward, with Harry Freedman winning a penalty after being brought down in the box, which Lee Rick dispatched confidently to restore the lead. Glossop then extended the lead further through a well-worked goal, with Harry Freedman heading home from a delightful cross.

Although Glossop seemed to be in control, Padiham pulled one back late on to set up a nervy finish, but Glossop held on to claim all three points, emerging as worthy winners in a pulsating contest that summed up the drama and unpredictability of football.
