Great start for Restall as Oldham share the spoils in pre-season friendly

Pre-Season Friendly: Oldham RLFC 24-24 Wakefield Trinity

Exciting full-back Owen Restall scored two tries in the first 16 minutes as new-look Oldham got their 2022 campaign off the ground with a 24-24 draw against a Wakefield Trinity side in a friendly at the Vestacare Stadium.

Though Trinity's was a young side, they fielded seven members of their full-time squad, including the more experienced Thomas Minns and Brad Walker, and played Fijian trialist John Devetanivalu, a soldier in the British Army, on the wing.

He and Minns each scored two tries and Kyle Marsh scored a fifth to bring the scores level in the last minute after big-hearted Oldham fought back from 20-12 down to lead 24-20.

Backs Joe Hartley and Calvin Wellington also crossed for Oldham, for whom captain Martyn Ridyard kicked four conversions from four attempts -- two of them off the touchline.

In the dying seconds his drop-goal attempt from half-way passed narrowly wide.
