Glossop North End made a dream start to their 2026/27 NWCFL Premier Division campaign over the weekend with a 2-0 win at home to Euxton Villa.
Second half strikes from Owen Warburton and Jordan Schofield saw The Hillmen earn all three points on the opening day of the season.
Warburton drilled GNE in front on the hour mark before Dylan Switters thought he’d notched a second moments later, only to be denied by the linesman’s flag.
But the hosts continued to push, and extended their advantage soon after, with Schofield once again converting from the spot to put his side in control.
From there, Lee Wilshaw’s side stood firm to retain their clean sheet and start the season in style.
“There’s so much pressure around the first game of the season, and I think you could tell that today,” revealed Wilshaw at full time.
“I think there was a little bit of nervousness in us, and I think the level of intensity that the game was played at compared to our last six or seven is night and day.
“But I’m really pleased, really happy, and looking forward to Tuesday already.”
For Glossop, Tuesday sees the visit of FC Isle of Man.
