Former Celtic striker scoops Sports Personality Award

Former Stalybridge Celtic striker Connor Jennings has scooped the Sports Personality award at the 2019 Wirrall Sports Awards.

Jennings, who progressed through Celtic's Academy before making 103 appearances for the first team, has taken the award after scoring the winning goal in Tranmere's League Two play-off final against Newport County in May.

Following his departure from Bower Fold in 2012, Jennings has gone on to play for Scunthorpe United, in which he had loan spells with Stockport County, Macclesfield Town and Grimsby Town, before enjoying a spell with Wrexham and then moving to Tranmere.

The 27-year-old has also featured for the England C side in 2011.
