It was FA Cup heartbreak for Glossop North End on Tuesday, who suffered a 2-0 defeat to Tadcaster Albion in their Extra Preliminary Round replay.
Trailing 1-0 with 10-men, the Hillmen showed grit and determination in Saturday’s clash to stay in the competition by the skin of their teeth, but could not make their efforts count in midweek.
Owen Warbuton’s late equaliser was met with elation from the GNE faithful, a feeling that was sorely lacking when the sides met again at Surrey Street.
With both teams failing to break the deadlock in the first period, Lee Wilshaw’s side were dealt a huge blow just 10 minutes into the second when the referee pointed to the spot following a challenge on Oliver Green.
Spencer Harris made no mistake from the spot, and despite a late Glossop fightback, Green was on hand to bundle home a second and clinch the victory five minutes from time.
“It’s a difficult one to take,” revealed Wilshaw following the defeat.
“After Saturday, being able to deal with the circumstances we were dealt and getting a goal back with 10 men, to come here tonight and fall to a 2-0 defeat is obviously really disappointing.
“It was a great turnout from the fans, and it’s just a shame we couldn’t send them home with something to look forward to next time.”
