Dukinfield Rugby Club host tournament for youngsters

Founded in 1840 Dukinfield Rugby Club, has been a home of rugby within Tameside ever since. On Sunday 8 October, their youth section welcomed teams from across Tameside as they hosted some of their regular fixtures within the season.

The youth section has seen tremendous growth in numbers over the past few years, and the committee is working hard to try and reach as many young people as possible in order to introduce them to this sport.

Over 80 young people attended the event and took part in multiple fixtures.

Youth Chairman Jack Moorhouse and vice-chair, Dan Spiers said that they are proud of what the group has achieved and want to see this momentum continue, “All of the children are enjoying the sport and we have the facilities and the dedication around our club to continue the progress we have seen.”

They hope that watching the Rugby World Cup will inspire even more young people to give rugby a try.

The youth section train on Thursday evenings with matches taking place on Sunday mornings.

The group have training sessions available from 2 years old right through to the senior teams. For further information please see their Facebook page, Dukinfield RUFC.
