Crowds flock to Hadfield for opening round of Fifteen-15 competition

Newshaw Lane was a hive of activity on Friday night, as local rivals Hadfield St Andrews and Glossop went head-to-head in the first round of the Fifteen-15 competition.

The original format of the game  - twenty-20 - has been shortened this season in a bid to drive up attendances and boost the coffers amid the ongoing situation.

The sides entered the game having endured mixed fortunes on the opening day of the Greater Manchester Cricket League just six days earlier; Hadfield comfortably beating Ashton, and Glossop falling well short against Flowery Field at North Road.

However, it was a much-improved performance from the visitors who stormed to victory on the evening.

Glossop batted first and set a target of 144 for five wickets, but Hadfield failed to get going and could only respond with 85/6.

Both sides will be hoping to pick up victories in the second round of the competition on Friday.  Glossop host the Denton Daredevils, who were beaten by Dukinfield Stags last week, whilst Hadfield make the short trip to Red Star Mottram.
