Craddock to take over as Lilywhites boss

Following current manager David Fish’s decision to step down at the end of the campaign, Mossley have announced that assistant manager Alex Craddock will take over the role of first team manager next season.

Craddock joined the club in 2020, initially as a first-team coach, before being promoted to assistant manager the following year.

“I’m over the moon,” the former Shelley man told the club’s YouTube channel following his appointment.

“It’s been a mad couple of weeks, but I’m ecstatic I’ve been given the opportunity here- I've never hidden the fact I wanted to be a manager.”

Following Craddock’s appointment, club director Nathan Harris said:

“When David made his decision to step-down at the end of the season, we wanted to move quickly to appoint his successor. Alex was naturally a front-runner for the role and providing continuity was an important factor in that – we’re delighted he has agreed to choose us as his first step into football management.

“Alex already has a strong affiliation with our supporters and our town – he understands what it means to be a Lilywhite and that played a key role in our decision. Alex has proven himself to be an excellent coach and is bought into our strategic plans for the future. As a board, we’re delighted to be working with him.

“Though the appointment doesn’t take place until next season, Alex will continue working in his role as Assistant Manager alongside David Fish as we push towards ensuring safety in this season’s NPL campaign.”

Not for the first time, Micky Mellon is absolutely coherent with the Latics fans. In praising his side’s Christmas campaign-within-a-campaign, he said he wants his side to turn draws into wins, and to be “that wee bit more clinical” in front of goal. That is all it would take for Latics to be serious contenders for a play-off place.
