Colts snap up brothers for 2021 National Development League campaign

Sam McGurk will make his National Development League debut alongside his brother, Harry, after Belle Vue snapped up the brothers for the 2021 ‘Cool Running’ Colts.

The younger McGurk has been a staple of British Youth Championship competition for many years, with his talents making him a prime target for several clubs this season.

Older brother Harry is equally skilled on two wheels and originally put pen to paper for Belle Vue in 2020 before league racing was curtailed as a result of the global pandemic.

Both are keen to put themselves to the test at the National Speedway Stadium, with the added bonus of teaming up together for the first time in competitive racing.

Sam said: “I had quite a few offers from other clubs for this season, but I’d always wanted to come to Belle Vue and when the opportunity came up, I didn’t have to think about it.

“The club is so well run. The management are great, the track is amazing, and I just felt it was the right environment for me in my first NDL season.

“I’m also glad that Harry will be in the team with me. He’s been a big help to me and when we’re on track together I know I can trust him. I’m really excited for the season to start.”

Harry added: “I’m really looking forward to this season, even more than I was last year. I think not racing for 12 months has raised the anticipation considerably.

“Even though we didn’t get any further than press day in 2020, I felt at home in Manchester and I’m grateful to the club for wanting to bring me back this season.

“I want to prove I’m ready to step up my game. My main focus in 2021 will be to try and double my average and establish myself as a heat leader, and I do believe I am capable of achieving this.”

The club is expected to make their final team announcements in the not-too-distant future, so be sure to stay tuned to our website and social media for updates.
