Aldwinians gearing up for season opener

Aldwinians are preparing for an improved season this year as they prepare to kick off their campaign away at Liverpool St Helens.

Last season was no doubt a disappointing for the Audenshaw based club as they finished in 8th place on 29 points. The club were also the second-lowest point scorers in the division whilst local rivals Oldham finished a sizable 40 points ahead of them finishing in second place.

The 2019/20 season will be the first season for an expanded league as the ADM Premier Division features twelve teams compared to the ten teams that featured last season.

Aldwinians started their season in the Lancashire Plate which ended in a devastating 43-14 defeat at home to Eccles RUFC. Aldwinians never looked comfortable in the game and Eccles’ class shone through as they ran out deserved winners. Aldwinians won’t see getting knocked out of the cup as a huge worry as they will surely be more focussed on the upcoming league campaign.

Their opponents this Saturday will be looking to build on a strong season last time out as the Merseyside club finished in 5th place. Having kept the majority of their squad they will surely be targeting a top-three finish and will be looking for a good start at home against Aldwinians.
