Saddleworth Neighbourhood police officers who deal with a high number of road traffic collisions, have been provided with equipment to help their clean-up efforts.
Their strong partnership with the Local Authority and Community Safety Officer has now provided equipment for their team to use. And police say they can clear RTC scenes themselves and reopen roads more quickly than before.
Police say accidents have often linked to speeding and a lack of respect for local roads by some motorists. There have been and are planned improvements to roads, upgraded signage, refreshed road markings, and future speed‑camera installations. And the local team will continue to carry out speed‑awareness and enforcement days.
When dealing with RTCs, the team has not previously been equipped to clear debris from the carriageway. This meant they relied heavily on OMBC and the Highways Department and even local residents for road clean‑ups.
When held at a temporary road closure/ counter-flow, police say be patient and allow their team to complete investigations and ensure the safety of all involved/ clean-up of the road. This will assist them greatly in the ability to re-open the road far more quickly.
