Power of Autism Easter and Eid celebration brings communities together

Mayor and Mayoress of Oldham, Cllr Eddie and Kath Moores.

Power of Autism proudly hosted a joint Easter and Eid celebration at The Primrose Centre, Oldham, bringing together families from across the community for a day of inclusion, joy, and support.

The event was attended by the Mayor and Mayoress of Oldham, Councillor Eddie and Kath Moores, along with Oldham Councillor Zaheer Ali, who showed strong support for local initiatives supporting autistic children and their families.

Organised in response to the growing need for safe, supportive spaces following the closure of local services, the event provided an opportunity for autistic children to take part in tailored activities while parents and carers connected with others facing similar experiences.

The celebration was a great success, with over 40 people attending. Children received Easter eggs, sweet cones, and balloons in gift bags, helping create a memorable and joyful experience.

Families enjoyed a wide range of activities including colouring and painting, sensory play, magnetic and building blocks, a bouncy castle, and a 360-photo booth. Fresh food was also available on the day, including Dutch pancakes, which were enjoyed by attendees.

A raffle was held with a variety of prizes, adding to the excitement of the event. The Mayor and Mayoress were among the winners, receiving a hamper, alongside Councillor Zaheer Ali.

The atmosphere was warm, welcoming, and inclusive, with many parents expressing their appreciation. One parent shared: “It’s amazing to have something like this in the community. My child felt comfortable, happy, and included, which doesn’t always happen in other settings.”

Safia and Zakiaya from Power of Autism said: “This event was all about creating a safe, inclusive space where autistic children can feel comfortable being themselves. Seeing families come together, children enjoying themselves, and parents feeling supported shows just how important these community events are.

“The event highlighted the importance of community-led initiatives in supporting neurodiverse children and raising awareness of autism. Power of Autism remains committed to continuing this work and expanding support for families across Oldham.

“We would like to thank all attendees, volunteers, and supporters who helped make the event a meaningful and memorable day for everyone involved.”
