Police offer advice after rise in family gold burglaries

Police are urging residents in Coldhurst to be extra vigilant after a rise in family gold burglaries in the area.

Officers have notified residents to take precautions to protect their gold as it is more likely to be stolen during religious or cultural festivals and weddings.

People are being told to be as discreet as possible when wearing jewellery in public to avoid unwanted attention and store their valuables in a deposit box.

A spokesperson for Oldham police said: “We are currently experiencing a rise in family gold burglaries in Coldhurst.

“Please take extra precautions and ensure all jewellery is kept in a safe. Please share this message and help us to reach as many people as possible to try and prevent further crime.”

If you have any information on who is committing crime in your area call the police on 101. Alternatively call the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
