Police have issued crime prevention advice following reports of gold jewellery being stolen from properties in the Coldhurst area.
Officers are urging residents to take photos of their valuables as good clear images of all items can help them to trace valuables.
Keep an inventory, and update insurance details when a new item is added.
People are asked to get a safe, a house alarm, or store their expensive jewellery in a safety deposit box, install CCTV, motion activated security lights and burglar alarm systems and always lock windows and doors, avoid ‘common’ hiding places, such as, underwear draws, wardrobes or under the bed - these are the first places burglars will look!
Police have also advised residents to remain vigilant and take note of unfamiliar cars on their streets. Always report suspicious activity!
A spokesperson from the Central Neighbourhood policing team said: “Use things like light timers if you work late in the evening so it looks like someone is home and don't tell family or friends where you store your items.
“Be careful talking about events in places with strangers, you never know who is listening! This can also include social media - check your setting and only share events with people you know.
“If you are a victim of a burglary, always inform the police at the earliest opportunity.
Take care, stay safe, and look out for each other.”
