A poetry evening aimed at bringing people together has been hailed as a huge success in Oldham.
Saleh Uddin and friend Shetu Chowdury organised the event at Cafe Grill Royton on Market Street, attended by people from Oldham, Manchester, Ashton and Sheffield.
Saleh, who has promoted litter picking in Coldhurst for the over 12 years and is a Keep Britain Tidy Litter Hero Ambassador, said: “Around 45 people came, and it was mainly to encourage them to learn poetry and to celebrate my friend, Nurul Islam’s 50th birthday, who was also presented with a bouquet of flowers.

“I hosted a similar event in February and because it was a huge hit with everyone, I decided to hold it again.
“Attendees had a chance to recite their poetry both in English and in Bangla.”
He added: “The event was fantastic, and people really appreciated it. We also provided food and drinks.”
Saleh, who lives in Coldhurst, is now hoping to run a multi-cultural poetry event to encourage different communities to read their poems in their native language.
