Nursery celebrates a 'Good' Ofsted

Krafty Kids Oldham

A Fitton Hill nursery has been given the thumbs up by education watchdog Ofsted in its latest inspection.

Krafty Kids Oldham, based at the New Bridge Learning Centre on St Martin’s Road, has been rated as a good provider in all five categories of the report.

Inspector Michelle Jacques found that staff created a nurturing and home-from-home environment where children flourished.

They arrived happy and were emotionally reassured by the safe and supportive atmosphere created by familiar and friendly staff.

The inspection noted that the pre-school offered an inclusive provision where every child’s different needs, abilities and backgrounds were celebrated.

Activities were adapted to ensure they are appropriate for children’s developmental needs, and they enjoyed using tools, which included, knocking plastic pegs into foam bricks while others used fingers to push pegs into place.

Inspector Jacques said: “Children have lots of opportunities to be active and benefit from daily fresh air and exercise in a large and well-equipped outdoor play area.

“Children begin to undertake small responsibilities and complete tasks for themselves. “They look after their toys and resources by tidying up after playing.

“Children, at times, used their initiative and completed these tasks without being prompted by adults. They are confidently independent, which is a key skill in readiness for school.”

Ofsted highlighted that the nursery had a good partnership with parents, who spoke fondly about managers referring to them as supportive and going ‘above and beyond’ to help children and families.

Children’s communication skills were supported well as they sang and used music to extend their vocabulary through rhythm and rhyme.

But to improve the quality of the early years provision further, the provider must improve staff skills and knowledge to help them effectively engage children in two-way conversations to fully support their emerging language skills.

Nursery Manager, Tracey Price, said she was absolutely elated with the report, adding: “We are happy. We have had a few challenges along the way, but both children and parents are happy.”
