Oldhamers are being invited to step back in time as a packed programme of vintage entertainment is set to grip the town this month.

Nostalgic Oldham will return to the town centre with a retro wonderland on Saturday, September 27 from 11am to 4pm.

The event promises a jam-packed day with vintage entertainment, live music, classic cars and family fun.

And to keep the little ones busy, the day also hosts a retro craft, face painting in the Spindles, retro arcade games near River Island, strolling performers and nostalgic gaming, to stunning displays of classic cars from the Tame Valley Vintage and Classic Car Club around the town centre.

Other highlights include Able Mable, a showgirl with a flair for the dramatic and Granny Turismo, the world’s only shopping trolley dance display team back by popular demand.

This was one of the good days. Latics were dominant: craftier, harder-working, more resolute and more ruthless than their opponents, better man-for-man, better as a team.

The sun is out and it finally feels like spring in Oldham town centre. Nothing can shake people’s good moods – as workers sunbathe on street benches, a man shares a joke with two bobbies patrolling on horseback, and shoppers shrug out of their puffer coats like butterflies coming out of cocoons.

Latics’ last visit to Prenton Park was memorable for lots of reasons. In beating Tranmere Rovers in the FA Cup 1st Round in November 2024, Latics were signalling unambiguous intent and capability in what became the season when they won promotion out of the National League.
