Oldham Mountain Rescue Team were alerted by Greater Manchester Police to assist a male stuck in the Ram's Clough area, at the side of Indian's Head, near Dovestones in Saddleworth, on Monday lunchtime.

The team were put on standby while further enquiries were made, and while they attempted to contact the male.

As these attempts were ongoing, it became apparent the male had managed to self-rescue and make his own way down towards the car park.

He was met by a team member and escorted the rest of the way, before being given some advice by GMP officers.

OMRT leader Rob Tortoishell said: "We, and other emergency services, will provide assistance without judgement or prejudice, but please let us know if you find you no longer need the assistance you have requested.

"This will save further resources being committed and may save potential embarrassment on your part. On this occasion, no harm was caused and the male was able to continue with his day, hopefully with a lesson learned."

Five OMRT personnel were involved for 45 minutes.

  • Latics 1 – 2 Salford City: Latics come up short against ugly Salford side

This was the first game for a few months in which Latics have played without the prospect of achieving a play-off place. Throughout February and March, Latics went on an astonishing run that put them in charge of their own destiny – if they had won every game from that point, they would have been in the play-offs no matter what happened elsewhere. The team they would have had to displace from the play-off spots (there was only one) was Salford City.
