Three restaurants given 'zero' rating for food hygiene but McDonald's and Costa score high

Marks are given for basic hygiene, food storage, paper work and the conditions of the premises.

Three Tameside restaurants have received a zero food hygiene rating, according to latest council figures.

The three are Mama G's Bistro on Ashworth Street, Denton, Nana Josie's Sandwich Shop, Yew Tree Lane, Dukinfield and New Market Deli, on Market Street, Ashton-under-lyne.

The ratings, out of five, are given following visits by inspectors employed by the local authority. Marks are given for basic hygiene, food storage, paper work and the conditions of the premises.

A zero rating means 'urgent improvement' is necessary.

in all, 180 premises received the top rating of five, including many chains such as McDonald's and Costa.
