Mettrick’s Butchers celebrates national success and four Gold Awards 

Family-run Mettrick’s Butchers is celebrating outstanding success at the 2026 National Craft Butchers Product Awards.

The team were crowned National Champions in two categories for their Chicken Tikka Kebabs and Italian Bacon, as well as securing an impressive four Gold Awards from four entries. 

The fifth-generation family business, which has been serving the Glossop community for over 100 years, competed against some of the finest craft butchers from across England and Wales in one of the industry’s most respected competitions. 

Mettrick’s entered four products into this year’s awards, with every single entry achieving the prestigious Gold standard: 

• Chicken Tikka Kebabs: Gold Award & National Category Champion 
• Italian Bacon: Gold Award & National Category Champion 
• Italian Sausage: Gold Award 
• Sheftalia Sausage: Gold Award 

The double national triumph is particularly significant for Mettrick’s, following previous success with its award-winning pies over the last two years. This year’s results demonstrate the exceptional skill, creativity and craftsmanship of the company’s butchery team across a diverse range of products.

The National Craft Butchers Product Awards are organised by National Craft Butchers, a trade association that has supported and championed excellence in the butchery industry for 138 years. 

This year’s competition attracted entries from craft butchers across England and Wales, with products undergoing rigorous assessment by a panel of industry experts. Entries were judged on criteria including taste, aroma, appearance and overall quality. 

The judging panel included master butchers, farmers and technical specialists, led by Head Judge Keith Fisher. Products achieving the Gold standard were then independently reassessed to determine the overall National Category Champions. 

For Mettrick’s Butchers, the latest accolades reinforce its reputation for combining traditional butchery skills with innovative, high-quality products, continuing a proud family tradition spanning five generations.
