Glossop Methodist Church celebrates 60 years

Central Methodist Church is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year with a series of events reflecting on its history, celebrating its community and looking ahead to the future.

The celebrations have included concerts, fun days and a special weekend showcasing memorabilia from the church’s past six decades.

Working alongside Hadfield Methodist Church, which is marking 30 years as a shop-front church on Station Road, the congregation has also compiled and published a prayer book featuring contributions written by members of both churches.

The Anniversary Service which took place on Sunday 11th October marked the opening of Central Methodist Church in 1966, when eight Methodist churches in Glossop came together to form one united church.

The year’s celebrations will conclude with a joint event involving Glossop and Hadfield Methodist churches on Sunday 29th November. A Pilgrimage of Light will travel from one church to the other, celebrating light in the darkness and bringing people together in a spirit of reflection and fellowship.

Reverend Hazel Cook said the anniversary was an opportunity to give thanks for the people, experiences and shared memories that have shaped the church over the past 60 years, while also looking ahead to its future.

The celebrations also provide an opportunity to consider how the church can continue to play a meaningful role in the local community, remaining a welcoming place of faith, connection and support for generations to come.
