Glossop group the social butterflies raise money for breast cancer

Glossop based group the Social Butterflies held an afternoon cream tea event and raised £820 for breast cancer.

Social Butterflies is a Facebook group created by its founder Debbie Hanson has been around since 2018 and after starting with just four members, the group now welcomes 479 women each week to socialise, create new friendships and take part  in a range of activities.

Over the years, the group has donated money to other charities such as the Glossopdale Foodbank and Crossroads. The past four years we have organised this yearly afternoon cream tea to raise money for breast cancer as one of the admin members of the group, Lorraine lost a friend to breast cancer and some of the members have also battled with the illness too. As more butterflies attended or donated every year, they smashed the previous amount raised.

The successful afternoon tea was held at the Norfolk Arms Debbie Hanson commented: “We could not have done this without the support of Lorraine Cooper , the butterflies who attended or contributed and also Carol Midgley, the manager of the Norfolk Pub who kindly let us use the facility free of charge.”

“They always donate a gift towards the raffle, normally a meal for two.”
