It's Rock at the highest level! For this week only Mossley OADS are bringing We will Rock You to life at the George Lawton hall
I’ve always had a soft spot for musicals that prioritise atmosphere and energy above all else, and We Will Rock You delivers that in abundance. From the opening moments to the final encore, it thrives on momentum, creating a vibrant, feel-good experience that needs to be perfect for a show of this calibre to succeed at amateur level.
The story itself is an odd one and I can imagine it's not everybody's cup of tea but with the talent this cast and production possesses very easily allows you to bypass that. Every scene feels like a build toward the next musical number, and when those songs land, they land with impact.
What stood out most was the consistency across the entire production. There wasn’t a moment where the energy dipped or the focus wavered. The live band provided a powerful foundation throughout, delivering the score with precision and drive. Their presence elevated every number, and moments like “Bohemian Rhapsody” gave the musicians a chance to step into the spotlight, adding an extra surge of excitement.
The cast worked seamlessly as an ensemble, creating a strong sense of unity on stage. The central pairing of Galileo and Scaramouche carried the story with confidence, balancing humour and heart with ease. Around them, the supporting roles added layers of personality and presence— Killer Queen in particular, brought a commanding intensity whenever they appeared, ensuring the show never lost its edge.
A Special shout to Isaac playing Britt - some high energy parts like that can be the most difficult to pull off but Isaac had so much about him that the show benefitted and was elevated even more when he spoke
On to the music and I have to say “I Want It All” was a clear highlight, delivered with power and conviction, while “These Are the Days of Our Lives” provided a rare, more reflective pause that added emotional weight to the evening.
The ensemble deserves significant credit for maintaining the show’s relentless pace. The choreography gave the production a constant sense of movement and purpose, while the vocal strength across the group ensured that every number felt full and impactful. It was this combination of physicality and musicality that kept the performance engaging from start to finish.
this entire show is the perfect example of why Mossley are a multi award winning society. Excitement, passion and abundance of ability. If you don't see this show you will miss out
