A knife attacker is on the run after a stabbing in Ashton left a man in hospital on Saturday night.

The 24-year-old was assaulted on Broadoak Road at around 10:50pm, in what GMP say was an isolated incident with ‘no wider threat to the community’.

The victim is in a stable condition in hospital with what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

Broadoak Road was cordoned off overnight between the Broadoak & Smallshaw Community Centre and Broadbent Avenue.

Police have asked for the public’s help in tracking down the assailant.

“We are seeking anyone who has information about this incident to please get in touch,” said Detective Inspector Christopher Dean. “This sort of violence has no place on our streets and officers are investigating this incident as we work to seek justice for the victim.

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact police via 101 or gmp.police.uk, quoting log 3561 of 03/08/24. Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
