Functional fitness MOT event aims to support Tameside’s over-50’s

Older residents in Tameside are being invited to take part in a special Functional Fitness MOT this November, offering free fitness assessments and expert advice to help people aged 50 and over stay active, healthy and independent.

The event will take place on Wednesday 5th November, running from 10am to 3pm at Ridgehill Together, Baptist Church, 24 Ambleside, Stalybridge, SK15 1EB.

Participants will receive a friendly one-to-one assessment to check balance, strength, mobility and overall functional fitness, along with tailored advice from health and fitness professionals. The aim is to give older adults the tools and confidence to maintain or improve their fitness levels as they age.

The day is organised in age-group sessions to ensure personalised and supportive guidance:

10am – 11am: Ages 50–55

11am – 12pm: Ages 55–60

12pm – 12:30pm: Ages 70–75

12:30pm – 1pm: Ages 75+

1pm – 2pm: Ages 60–65

2pm – 3pm: Ages 65–70

The initiative is being delivered by Age UK Tameside, Live Active, and Be Well Tameside, who are working together to encourage active ageing and promote positive health in later life.

Anyone aged over 50 in Tameside is welcome to attend, and the session is free of charge.
