MCR Dance & Cheer Academy, based in Ashton-under-Lyne, has just returned from the European Championships in Portugal after taking 80 young people (5-17) to compete internationally and bringing home two European Championship titles.
Founded by Miah Maddock-Hodgins when she was just 18 years old, the academy has grown rapidly over the last four years and now supports hundreds of children and young people through dance, cheerleading, SEND provision and community programmes.
The Portugal trip saw athletes from across Tameside and Greater Manchester represent England on the international stage, with MCR achieving some of its strongest results to date.
Beyond the medals, there are some remarkable stories of determination, community support and opportunity that have helped local young people achieve success at European level.
While the medals are a fantastic achievement, the real story is how a community club from Ashton-under-Lyne has created opportunities for hundreds of local young people in just four years.
