Black Sonic Revolver
From Monday 9th September onwards, our band of the week on Tameside Radio's Local Music Spotlight feature are Black Sonic Revolver. The band originally formed in 2013 as a 'creative vehicle for musical expression' for it's members.
They started by releasing four full length demo albums, starting with 2014’s 'BSR (The Kitchen Album)', which was recorded in a kitchen in Mossley, followed by three further demo albums using improved recording equipment. The debut album, along with 2015’s'Life on a Knife Edge' and 2018’s 'Different!' albums went on to be condensed and repackaged in 2020 as a 17 track album simply named 'Black Sonic Revolver', and released as a real introduction to the band for new fans.
A following album was delayed by the Covid-19 pandemic, which also saw a change in line up with Bass player Matt Byrne and Drummer David Andrews joining founding member, lead singer and guitarist, and much loved Manchester musician Leon Kenny in the band, alongside guitarist Joe Thompson. They released the 'Got To Let You Know' demo in December 2022, followed by a ten track album released last month entitled 'For Those In The Know', which has been dedicated to the band's fans who have stuck with them through the years. It was recorded at Boxyard Studios, at the same time Courteeners, DMA's, and Slow Readers Club were working on their new material in the same studio complex.
Over the years the band have supported the likes of Cast, Northside, The Pigeon Detectives, The Real People, plus many more, and have often been described as 'The most underground band Manchester has ever produced'. Their latest album 'For Those In The Know' is available now, and will be celebrated with an album launch party at Lions Den in Manchester on Saturday September 21st, supported by The Marbellas and The Information Highway.
Black Sonic Revolver are already a highly respected band on the Northern music scene, and with a new album and a bright future ahead, their rise can only continue to grow. Black Sonic Revolver and their music will be played on every daytime show on Tameside Radio from 6am on Monday 9th September. The band also joined the team on The Dave Sweetmore Show last Monday night 2nd September, you can listen again via the OnDemand section of the website.
