Rail cops hunt man after conductor assault

British Transport Police have appealed for the public’s help in tracing a man after an assault on a train conductor.

Detectives say the conductor was hit in the face through an open window as the service was leaving Hattersley railway station on Wednesday January 15.

The person the force wants to speak has a distinctive bike with white forks over the front wheel and green handlebar grips.

Matt Rice, Chief Operating Officer for Northern, said: “Whilst a reduction in the number of incidents is welcome – the fact that there have been 182 offences committed against my colleagues [in 2024] is totally unacceptable.

"Our traincrew and station staff are there to help our customers get where they want to be.

"They deserve to be treated with respect and the overwhelming majority of our customers do just that."

A statement from the force said: “Anyone who witnessed the incident, recognises the man in the image is asked to contact British Transport Police by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference 737 of 15 January.

“Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
