Ten years on and still the need for a food bank

For more than a decade, Glossopdale Foodbank has provided a lifeline to many people, who for various reasons have needed to ask for support.

Liz Kearslake, the manager at Glossopdale Foodbank, said fears are rising that the changes to the pensioners' winter fuel allowance will create even greater hardships.

"Last year we experienced a substantial rise in those needing our support when, due to the price rises, people were having to make the choice between heating and cooking," she explained. "This problem is likely to intensify this coming winter, especially after October when the fuel companies increase their tariffs.

"When Glossopdale Foodbank was started over a decade ago, at that time it was assumed it would only be for a year or so. But now more than a decade on it has become even more necessary to a lot of people. I can only repeat how grateful we are for the donations, made by local people and businesses, for without them we could not continue the service we offer."

The trustees of Glossopdale Foodbank were sorry to hear of the recent death of Paul Rucki, who was for many years a valued Glossopdale Foodbank trustee. His contributions will be sadly missed.
