The glitch meant some people could view charges and payments made by other customers. A spokesperson for Lloyds Banking Group, which owns all three banks, apologised for the issue and said the incident had been resolved.

It is not yet clear exactly how many users were affected. One woman said she was able to see the accounts of six different users on the Bank of Scotland app, including some National Insurance numbers, over a 20-minute period.

A surgeon in London says he has performed the UK’s first long-distance robotic operation on a patient located 1,500 miles (2,400km) away in Gibraltar.

Ubisoft has cancelled six video games, including its long-awaited Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake, as part of what it has described as a “major reset” of its operations.

Monzo says it has resolved an issue affecting its mobile banking app on Tuesday 13th Jan after thousands of customers reported difficulties accessing it.

Platform outage monitor Downdetector saw more than 4,000 reports from users complaining of problems shortly after 15:00 GMT. The company earlier acknowledged an issue affecting its app - telling customers who tried to use it that it would “not be fully functional” while it investigated.

Some users attempting to access the app took to social media to complain to Monzo that they could not view funds, recent payments, or make bank transfers. A Monzo spokesperson said “customers can now use the app as normal.”

Stricter rules have come into force for drones and model aircraft across the UK. Since 1 January, anyone flying a drone or model aircraft weighing 100g or more must complete an online Civil Aviation Authority theory test to obtain a Flyer ID.

This requirement was previously only in place for heavier drones. The free online test grants a Flyer ID that lasts for five years.

In addition, anyone who owns a drone weighing 100g or more that has a camera must also register for an Operator ID with the CAA.

Artificial intelligence is becoming an everyday part of life, from recruitment and social media to paving the way for medical breakthroughs.

Northumberland County Council is now testing how AI could help make faster and better planning decisions related to flood risk, with hopes of rolling the findings out across the country.

While planning officers will continue to review applications as normal, AI will run in parallel to see if it can identify issues faster or help make writing applications easier.

The council described the project as “really exciting”, while stressing that every decision will continue to be overseen by human experts.

Ofcom Investigating BT and Three over Mobile Outages

Ofcom is investigating BT and Three over mobile outages it said had caused "UK-wide disruption", including to emergency services.

Thousands of Three customers reported they were unable to make calls in June, while BT and EE customers were hit by a similar outage in July.

The regulator said it would examine whether the mobile networks did not do enough to prevent the problems.

Three said in a statement it was engaging with Ofcom. A BT Group spokesperson apologised to customers who had been affected.

Investigation After Throusands Of Workers Affected By Data Breach

An investigation has been launched after thousands of workers were affected by a personal data breach.

Data Protection authorities of Guernsey, Jersey, the Isle of Man and the UK have launched inquiries into the cyber incident which compromised data of the trade union Prospect Custodian Trustees Ltd in June 2025.

The Office of Data Protection (ODPA) said Prospect had more than 160,000 members who work as scientists, engineers, tech experts and in other specialist roles, and added about 3,000 Bailiwick residents were affected.

Notifications seen by some users based in the UK and US say they can only share a certain number of links in Facebook posts without a subscription.

Google Teams Up With Researchers For Quantum Computering

Google has announced plans to team up with the UK to invite researchers to come up with uses for the tech giant's state-of-the-art quantum chip Willow.

Australia's Social Media Block Taken Effect

Australia's world-first social media ban for children has taken effect, with teenagers waking up to find their accounts have gone dark.

Others tell BBC they have already snuck past barriers and will continue scrolling and posting freely until they are caught.

Google's Smart Glasses Are Back

Google plans to launch smart glasses powered by artificial intelligence (AI) in 2026, after its previous high-profile attempt to enter the market ended in failure.

The tech giant set expectations high in 2013 when it unveiled Google Glass, billed by some as the future of technology despite its odd appearance with a bulky screen positioned above the right eye.

Google pulled the product in 2015 less than seven months after its UK release, but is now planning on re-entering the market with smart glasses with a cleaner look.

But it comes after Meta has already made waves with its smart specs, which have sold two million pairs as of February.

Live feeds or images from smart cameras can in rare cases be accessed by unauthorised users, putting your privacy at risk.

This is possible because smart cameras are often configured so that you can access them whilst you're away from home.

Australia Bans Under-16s From Using Major Social Media Services

From 10 December, under-16s in Australia are banned from using major social media services including Tiktok, X, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Snapchat and Threads.

They will not be able to set up new accounts, and existing profiles must be deactivated.

The ban - the first of its kind - is being watched closely by other countries.

Ten platforms are currently included: Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Threads, TikTok, X, YouTube, Reddit and streaming platforms Kick and Twitch.

The government assesses potential sites against three main criteria:

  • whether the platform's sole or "significant purpose" is to enable online social interaction between two or more users;
  • whether it allows users to interact with some or all other users; and
  • whether it allows users to post material

YouTube Kids, Google Classroom and WhatsApp are not covered as they are not deemed to meet those criteria.

Development Works For AI & Cloud Computering Data Centre Has The Go-Ahead

The first phase of development works for a £10bn artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud computing data centre have been given the go-ahead.

Northumberland County Council approved the first of five phases of construction works on the former Blyth Power Station site at Cambois, near Blyth.

US firm QTS plans to build 10 data halls over more than 133 acres (540,000 sq m) on the site, which it says will create thousands of jobs through its construction and operation.

Members of the council's strategic planning committee voted unanimously to approve the construction of two of the halls as part of the first phase of works.

YouTuber Marques Brownlee Announced Plans To Shut Down His App

The popular YouTuber Marques Brownlee has announced he plans to shut down his subscription app for mobile phone wallpapers, Panels.

The content creator, whose sometimes scathing takes on new tech products have helped him amass more than 20 million YouTube subscribers, launched the app in September 2024.

Panels let people download a range of digital wallpapers for their devices for a monthly fee.

But more than a year after facing scrutiny over its price and privacy, Brownlee has told followers the app would be shut down altogether on 31 December.

Cyber Attack: The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea (RBKC) Activate Emergency Plans

The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea (RBKC) in west London has initiated emergency plans following a cyber attack.

It is understood that the same incident, which is being investigated by the National Crime Agency and GCHQ's Cyber Security Centre, has also affected Westminster City Council and Hammersmith and Fulham Council as part of "joint arrangements".

RBKC said it had now "established the cause of the cyber incident" and in some situations advised staff to work from home.

An internal RBKC memo, seen by the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS), shows the council is keeping parts of its networks closed as a "precautionary measure".

The note says staff can continue to access the guest wi-fi and mobile hotspots in its offices but the authority is not predicting a full return of all affected systems "for some days".

It also urges staff to "remain vigilant".

New Technology At Football Stadium Under Trial

New technology described as the "first of its kind in the UK" is set to revolutionise live football matches, according to scientists.

The technology, which was successfully trialled at a stadium in Milton Keynes, ensures sports fans will never have to struggle to get a signal at a game or miss crucial match moments.

The innovation, which unites artificial intelligence (AI) and 5G, was developed in a collaboration between the University of Bristol, AI experts Madevo, and network specialists Weaver Labs among others.

In recent trials, the university said fans were able to stream "four high-quality live video feeds, directly to their mobile devices, all at the tap of a screen".

The technology also promises fans live players statistics, exclusive behind-the-scenes views and real-time queue navigation among other things.

Say Hi To AI ChatBot Bobbi

Two police forces in the South are trialing an AI chatbot called Bobbi, to answer frequently asked, non-emergency questions and help ease pressure on call handlers.

Thames Valley Police and the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary say they are the first forces in the country to employ the technology.

Chief Superintendent Simon Dodds said: "This is not about cutting staff."

"It's not unusual within Hampshire and Thames Valley to see 5,000 calls come into our rooms across a 24 hour period and trying to prioritise the 999 calls above the 101 calls and online demand is a real challenge for us," he said.

Bobbi is an additional service which will operate alongside existing telephone lines, online forms and front counters.

The force said it had been tested by more than 200 people during its development, including representatives from victim care groups.

The AI has been trained on the same information referenced by the two police forces' call handlers and digital desk operators.

Roblox Age Checks

Children will no longer be able to chat to adult strangers on Roblox - one of the world's most popular gaming platforms - as part of an expansion of its safety measures.

Mandatory age checks will be introduced for accounts using chat features, starting in December for Australia, New Zealand and the Netherlands, then the rest of the globe from January.

Cloudflare Downtime Affected Apps & Websites

A number of high-profile websites, including X and ChatGPT, went down for many people on Tuesday, due to problems affecting major internet infrastructure firm, Cloudflare.

Thousands of users began reporting issues with the sites, as well as other services, to outage monitoring site Downdetector shortly after 11:30 GMT.

Cloudflare said the "significant outage" occurred after a configuration file designed to handle threat traffic did not work as intended and "triggered a crash" in its software handling traffic for its wider services.

"We apologise to our customers and the Internet in general for letting you down today," it said in a statement.

It said while the issue had been resolved, some services might still encounter errors as they came back online.

A wide range of apps and websites were impacted by the outage.

Home Heated By Shed Data Centre

An Essex couple have become the first people in the country to trial a scheme that sees them heat their home using a data centre in their garden shed.

Terrence and Lesley Bridges have seen their energy bills drop dramatically, from £375 a month down to as low as £40, since they swapped their gas boiler for a HeatHub – a small data centre containing more than 500 computers.

Data centres are banks of computers which carry out digital tasks. As the computers process data, they generate lots of heat, which is captured by oil and then transferred into the Bridges' hot water system.

Vans Equipped With Facial Recognition Technology To Be Rolled Out

Vans equipped with facial recognition technology are set to be rolled out on streets in Sussex and Surrey.

Two vans fitted with cameras which feed into specialist software will aim to catch criminals, suspects, and those wanted on recall to prison across the counties.

The rollout comes amid opposition from politicians and campaign groups, some of whom call the technology "incredibly intrusive" and "racially biased".

Speaking at Sussex Police headquarters in Lewes, police and crime commissioner Katy Bourne said: "This is not about surveillance, this is about safeguarding."

Valve's New Home Console

Valve, the company behind PC gaming platform Steam, has revealed a new console to rival Nintendo, Xbox and PlayStation.

The Steam Machine is a home console designed to allow gamers to play PC games on their TV - though it can also be used as a computer.

It is a spiritual sequel to the 2014 device of the same name, which failed to break into a market dominated by the three big gaming giants.

The Steam Machine will go on sale in early 2026, the company said, with the pricing yet to be announced.

Amazon's 'Project Kuiper' Renamed to Amazon LEO

After several successful launches this year, Project Kuiper has its official name: Amazon Leo. It’s a nod to the term Low-Earth Orbit (LEO), which refers to orbits at an altitude of 1,200 miles (2,000 kilometers) or less. 

That’s the region where Amazon’s constellation of 153 satellites orbit. The original code name referred to the Kuiper Belt, an asteroid belt in the outer solar system past Neptune.

Amazon plans to launch over 80 missions containing some 3,000 spacecraft. 

Leo has had six launches so far, including three launches using SpaceX Falcon 9 rockets with a total of 72 satellites on board. 

Amazon’s main rival in this space is SpaceX’s Starlink, which recently launched its 10,000th satellite.

Rockstar Games Accused By Trade Union Of Sacking Staff For Unionising

Grand Theft Auto (GTA) maker Rockstar Games has been accused by a trade union of sacking staff in the UK to stop them from unionising.

The Independent Workers' Union of Great Britain (IWGB), which represents people working in the gaming sector, said 31 workers were fired from Rockstar's UK studios on 30 October.

The union led rallies outside the company's offices in Edinburgh and London on Thursday to protest what it described as "the most blatant and ruthless act of union busting in the history of the games industry".

Council Chief Apologised For Data Breach

A council chief has apologised after hundreds of residents' sensitive data was mistakenly shared online.

Some names, addresses, phone numbers and email addresses of 625 people who responded to South Gloucestershire Council's consultation on 24 October were published online for three days.

Once the error was spotted, council officers took "very prompt action" to remove the data and report the breach to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).

Grand Theft Auto VI - the latest instalment of the hugely successful GTA series - is developed by the Rockstar Leeds studio.

It may be the most famous title associated with the Yorkshire games industry, but there are hundreds of smaller studios and solo developers who are hoping their ideas become the next PlayStation and Xbox hits.

South London School Qualified For Robotics Competition

A south London school has qualified for an international "Olympics-style" robotics competition, in what it claims is a first.

Young people from Langley Park School for Boys in Beckenham won the UK Championships earlier this year and will head to Panama City on 29 October to represent Britain in the First Global Challenge.

Teams from 190 different countries will be represented at the event.

AI App To Help People Remember Info From Medical Appointments

An app designed to help people remember and summarise information from medical appointments using artificial intelligence (AI) has launched.

Created by Oxford-based company Aide Health, the Mirror app records appointments and gives a summary afterwards that the patient can refer back to and share with carers and family.

Creator Ian Wharton said the platform was a "really modern application of AI to solve a challenge that is this hidden risk in every healthcare consultation that we have".

He said he came up with the idea to help his dad, who has early-stage Alzheimer's, to ensure he did not miss information from doctors appointments.

Apple Could Pay Up To £1.5bn In Damages

Apple could be forced to pay up to £1.5bn in damages after losing a collective legal action court case brought on behalf of 36 million UK iPhone and iPad users, both consumers and businesses.

The Competition Appeals Tribunal found that Apple, had abused its dominant position by charging "excessive and unfair" prices in the form of the 30% commission, which it usually levies both on app sales and in-app payments.

The claimants argued that this meant that consumers had been overcharged for apps, subscriptions to apps, and when buying digital content in apps.

Apple said it strongly disagreed with the ruling and would appeal.

The case was pursued by academic Dr Rachael Kent.

Digital ID Scheme - Only Needed When Applying For A New Job

The government says its controversial digital ID scheme will not be applied retrospectively, with UK workers only needing it when they apply for a job after its proposed introduction by 2028.

Announcing the plans in September, Sir Keir Starmer said they were a means to stop people "slipping into the shadow economy."

It's now confirmed the scheme will only be mandatory for jobs entered into once it goes live, which ministers say will happen by the end of the parliament.

£48M To Build An "Advanced Mobile Network"

A telecommunications network has announced £48m to build an "advanced mobile network".

Sure by Beyon said it would spend £100m across the Channel Islands and Isle of Man over the next five years to develop communication infrastructure.

The company, formerly known as Sure, said nearly half of the money would go towards delivering 100% 5G coverage.

It said communications technology firm Ericsson had been chosen as a strategic partner to help deliver the network upgrades and 5G coverage.

Apple Might Have To Allow Rivals Within Its App Store

Apple may have to allow rivals to operate their own app stores on iPhones in the UK, after a ruling from the competition regulator.

This would be a significant change to Apple's infamous "closed system" where apps can only be downloaded from its own App Store.

But the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has designated both Apple and Google as having "strategic market status" - effectively saying they have a lot of power over mobile platforms.

But the regulator said it did not "find or assume wrongdoing" from the firms.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) Appologised For Outage

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has apologised to customers impacted by a massive outage, after it knocked some of the world's largest platforms offline.

Snapchat, Reddit and Lloyds Bank were among more than 1,000 sites and services reported to have gone down as a result of issues at the heart of the cloud computing giant's operations in North Virginia, US on 20 October.

In a detailed summary of what caused the outage, Amazon said it occurred as a result of errors which meant its internal systems could not connect websites with the IP addresses computers use to find them.

"We apologise for the impact this event caused our customers," the company said.

While many platforms such as the online games Roblox and Fortnite were back up and running within a few hours of the outage, some services experienced prolonged downtime.

Passwords can be stolen by cyber criminals, potentially giving them access to your online accounts. However, accounts that have been set up to use 2SV will require an extra check, so even if a criminal knows your password, they won't be able to access your accounts.

The NCSC recommends that you set up 2SV on your 'important' accounts; these will typically be the 'high value' accounts that protect things that you really care about, and would cause the most harm to you if the passwords to access these accounts were stolen. You should also use it for your email, as criminals with access to your inbox can use it to reset passwords on your other accounts.

Spotify Working With Record Labels Around AI

Spotify, the world's biggest music streaming service, has announced it is working with major labels on using artificial intelligence (AI) in a "responsible" way.

The firm said it wanted to make AI tools which "put artists and songwriters first" and respect their copyright.

The streaming giant will license music from the three record labels which make up the vast majority of the industry: Sony Music, Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group.

However, critics say adding more AI to the platform would result in less streaming revenue for human artists.

It is unclear exactly what these AI tools will look like, but Spotify says it has already started working on its first products.

Capita Fined by Information Commissioners Office (ICO)

The UK's data watchdog has fined outsourcing firm Capita £14m after the personal data of 6.6 million people was stolen in a cyber-attack.

The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) said Capita "failed to ensure the security of processing of personal data which left it at significant risk"..

Capita provides professional and outsourcing services in a number of different fields for the public and private sectors.

Information apparently containing Capita data - including home addresses and passport images - began to circulate on the dark web.

The ICO said financial data had been stolen, and in some cases details of criminal records had been hacked.

Vodafone Recovered After Outage

Vodafone says it has resolved an outage on Monday 13th october across its network that left thousands of people across the UK without internet access.

More than 130,000 reports were flagged to web outage monitor Downdetector on Monday afternoon, as customers complained their Vodafone broadband or mobile data had stopped working.

In a statement on the Tuesday, the company said the outage was "triggered by a non-malicious software issue with one of our vendor partners which has now been resolved, and the network has fully recovered". They did apologise for any inconvenience this caused.

Customers of other telecoms firms that use Vodafone's network were also knocked offline.

Downdetector saw a similar spike in reports on Monday afternoon from users of the mobile network Voxi, which is owned by Vodafone.

Customers of Lebara and Talkmobile, which piggy-back off Vodafone's network, were also affected.

Mobile Phone Ban At Nightclub

A mobile phone ban on a nightclub dance floor could be a "powerful" way to help people reconnect, according to one musician.

The Doppler Studio in Leicester said it had brought in a phone-free policy in an effort to preserve the atmosphere of live music and dance on nights out.

Revellers seen using their phones on the dance floor at the nightclub in High Street are asked to put the device away, and if they are spotted more than once, are asked to leave the venue.

Range Rover Production Lines Restarted

Range Rover production lines in Solihull have resumed, according to car maker Jaguar Land Rover (JLR).

About 6,500 employees were back working at the site, it said, following the phased restart of operations after a major cyber-attack.

About 1,000 employees also started work in the car maker's Wolverhampton engine plant on Wednesday, it said, marking a "significant moment" on its journey back to full vehicle production.

The company said it planned for all its manufacturing sites to be back up and running by the end of next week as it recovered from the incident.

Kido Nursery Chain Hackers Arrested

Two 17-year-old boys have been arrested by police investigating a cyber-attack on a chain of nurseries in London.

The Metropolitan Police say the pair were arrested at residential addresses in Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire, on suspicion of computer misuse and blackmail.

Hackers were said to have stolen the photographs, names and addresses of about 8,000 children from the Kido chain.

The force said it received a referral from the Action Fraud cyber crime reporting service on 25 September detailing a ransomware attack.

Those arrested remain in custody for questioning.

Kido Nursery Chain Backtrack On Data Release

Hackers who attempted to extort a nursery chain by posting stolen images and data about children on the darknet have removed the posts and claim to have deleted the information.

The criminals began posting profiles of the children to their website last Thursday, adding another 10 children days later and vowing to continue until Kido Schools paid a ransom in Bitcoin.

The criminals also contacted parents directly with threatening phone calls whilst trying to get their ransom paid.

But public revulsion at their attack appears to have forced the criminals to backtrack.

First they blurred the images but kept the data up - now they have taken all the information offline, and apologised for their actions.

UK Goverment Issue New Order For Apple Users Data

The UK government has issued a new order giving it the right to demand access to the personal data of Apple's British users, which has been reported.

It is the latest development in the ongoing dispute between Apple and the Home Office over data privacy.

The UK says it needs to be able to access individuals' private data - when backed by an appropriate warrant - if there is a threat to national security.

Apple maintains that privacy is at the heart of its business and says it will not compromise on data protection anywhere in the world.

Suffolk County Council DDos Attack

A county council said its website was unavailable after it was targeted by a cyber-attack.

Suffolk County Council confirmed earlier the incident had affected several of its online services.

A spokesperson said it had suffered a denial of service attack, where a website is deliberately overloaded with traffic, and work was ongoing to restore the site.

A group on social media has claimed to have "dropped" the site along with others including Suffolk Chamber of Commerce and Harwich Town Council in Essex.

Hackers Say They Have Stolen Kido Nursery Chain Data

Hackers say they have stolen the pictures, names and addresses of around 8,000 children from the Kido nursery chain.

The gang of cyber criminals is using the highly sensitive information to demand a ransom from the company, which has 18 sites in and around London, with more in the US and India.

The criminals say they also have information about the children's parents and carers as well as safeguarding notes.

They claim to have contacted some parents by phone as part of their extortion tactics.

Ministers Consider Assisting JLR's Supply Chain

Ministers are considering stepping in to support Jaguar Land Rover's suppliers after the carmaker was forced to suspend production due to a cyber-attack.

The attack at the end of August meant JLR was forced to shut down its IT networks. Its factories remain suspended until next month at the earliest.

Fears are growing that some suppliers, in particular the smaller firms who solely rely on JLR's business, could go bust without support.

The idea behind such a move would be to keep the companies in JLR's supply chain in business until production lines are up and running again.

Person Arrested For Collins Aerospace Cyber Attack

A person has been arrested in connection with a cyber-attack which has caused days of disruption at several European airports including Heathrow.

The National Crime Agency (NCA) said a man in his forties was arrested in West Sussex "as part of an investigation into a cyber incident impacting Collins Aerospace".

Two Teenagers Arrested For TFL Cyber Attack

Two teenagers have been charged as part of a National Crime Agency (NCA) investigation into a cyber attack on Transport for London.

TfL suffered a major hack on 31 August last year, which investigators believe was carried out by members of the cyber-criminal group, Scattered Spider.

Thalha Jubair, 19, from east London, and Owen Flowers, 18, from Walsall in the West Midlands, were arrested at their home addresses on Tuesday last week by the NCA and City of London Police.

Both appeared at Westminster Magistrates Court and have been charged with conspiring together to commit unauthorised acts against TfL, under the Computer Misuse Act.

AI-assisted Cameras In West London

A west London borough has approved plans to introduce facial recognition and AI-assisted cameras into its CCTV infrastructure.

Hammersmith and Fulham Council's cabinet has approved more funding to "enhance" the local authority's camera network.

The borough already has more cameras per person than anywhere else in the UK, with more than 2,000 currently operating.

Campaign group Big Brother Watch said the use of facial recognition proposed by the council amounted to "an unprecedented level of mass surveillance and it marks the end of privacy in the public space as we know it".

Autonomous Delivery Robots In Reading

Autonomous delivery robots have been spotted travelling along pavements in Reading, marking the town's first test of pavement-based parcel drop-offs.

Footage captured by residents in Whitley Wood shows two four-wheeled robots from parcel firm DPD crossing roads as part of a local trial.

The company is seeking permission from the borough council to operate one robot on a defined route, with safety concerns for pedestrians and motorists under review.

Kulpa App Being Tested

A digital evidence app being trialled by Jersey police could help domestic abuse victims come forward, it is hoped.

Kulpa has already been tested by Hertfordshire police, which found using the app saved up to seven hours per case.

It can be used by anyone who wants to send evidence - whether it is video, pictures or audio files - and domestic abuse victims can hide the app if needed.

The Kulpa app, like all apps, can be hidden on most smartphones to remove it from the home screen. It can be locked with a passcode or biometrics or simply deleted while the information uploaded will still be stored safely.

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) Admitted Some Data Taken

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has admitted that some data may have been taken by hackers in a cyber-attack that has halted car production and forced the vehicle-maker to send workers home.

The company, owned by India's Tata Motors, initially said it did not believe any customer information had been stolen

Production lines at JLR's factories in Solihull, Halewood and Wolverhampton have been at a standstill since the beginning of the Cyber Attack.

School And College Cyber-Attacks By Own Students

More than half of school and college cyber attacks and data breaches are being carried out by their own pupils, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) has revealed.

School children and college students are carrying out hacks and accessing private data for fun or as part of dares, the ICO says, calling it a "worrying trend".

It is warning teachers that they are failing to understand and recognise what it calls the "insider threat" pupils pose.

Data reveals there were 519 reports of pension fraud in total with an average loss of £33,848 per person in 2024.

Reporting analysis suggests the two most prevalent ways criminals targeted victims were investment fraud pressuring tactics, and account takeovers of a victim’s pension scheme by impersonating them.

Action Fraud, with support from the Pension Scams Action Group (PSAG), launched a pension fraud awareness campaign, warning people to take extra measures to protect their pension scheme accounts and to be cautious of investment opportunity offers from criminals that could be targeting them.
